You can’t eat anything dead to feel alive!
A line i read on my travels to Jamaica. An incredible Rastafarian Restaurant had this statement hanging above their menu. Ever since i read it, I can not forget about it anymore.
A few years ago I went to Jamaica and discovered the Rastafarian culture and I was impressed by their beliefs and therefor in their diet. To stay healthy and spiritually connected, they eat a natural diet, free of chemicals, additives and meat. The style of primarily vegan eating is known as ital cooking. (This just as a background info)
Before my trip there, I already was a vegan/vegetarian. I am not saying everybody that practices Yoga should become vegan or vegetarian. Not at all. It’s totally up to you. I just felt very strongly about it and that it was the right thing to do. Believe me when I say it was hard! Growing up in a small town in Germany, where meat is often part of an every day diet, I had a hard time letting it go. A few years ago I could have not imagined to stop eating meat. Or to stop eating soup made with beef or chicken broth. But something inside of me told me to give it a try. Influenced by some really eye opening documentaries about our so called farming and food industry, made it much easier to switch. For me, its been 4 years now.
My intention with this post is simple:
If you have ever thought about trying a vegan or vegetarian diet or reducing meat in general, I am happy to support you. If I can do it, everyone can do it! That’s a fact. (I loved eating meat, every day). I mentioned on my website before that whatever we feed ourselves we become. This means, whatever thoughts we allow to come up, the TV shows we watch, the books we read, our community we chose and the friends and partners we are with is all considered food for our souls and minds. At the same time there is another source of income, basically information's that we send to our body, this information is simply called food. And drinks of course. I want to invite you to take a second and think about my Blog title. Can you really feel alive by eating something dead???That’s all it took for now… Just a quick thought…
If you are still reading, I assume you are interested in giving it a try and / or being a big animal lover :-) This is a very complex topic and honestly…it is hard to write about it with an neutral and objective mind. I guess I have a tiny passion inside of me that tries to convince everyone I know, to live a healthier life. What I would love to do here is recommend some really good documentaries to you. Documentaries about human health and lifestyle, animal farming, mass producing and lack of animal rights. This is my part, this is what I can do. Stay curious friends!
